At the Movies – September 2014 – Part 3: Most Anticipated Films

Must-See of the Month:

The Skeleton Twins – Dramedy – Sep 12
Plot Summary: Milo and Maggie are twins. They have not seen each other in over ten years; but after coincidentally cheating death on the same day, they decide to have a reunion. Their estrangement just felt easier than sustaining a real relationship with each other, but now they want to try. Key Filmmakers Involved: Writer-director Craig Johnson, writer Mark Heyman, and executive producers Jay and Mark Duplass. Actors Involved: Bill Hader, Kristen Wiig, Ty Burrell, Luke Wilson, and Boyd Holbrook. Quality Potential: High. The Skeleton Twins won the Waldo Salt Screenwriting Award at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. It is a powerful drama, built on the fantastic chemistry between Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig. It has emotional range and depth, but is also very funny in moments as well. This September is not a very strong month in terms of its available films, but The Skeleton Twins seems likely to be the month’s best output. Both Hader and Wiig could see some recognition for their performances (probably at the Independent Spirit Awards). Trailer: Here.
