TV Series of the Month – Veronica Mars

This month’s TV series is Veronica Mars (2004-2007).

The crime series is about a high school student, Veronica, who helps her PI father out in her spare time. When new clues regarding the murder of her best friend come to light, she dedicates herself to trying to solve the case. The show was created by Rob Thomas (also a co-creator of Party Down), and stars Kristen Bell, Percy Daggs III, Jason Dohring, Francis Capra, Ryan Hansen, Teddy Dunn, Michael Muhney, Tina Majorino, and Enrico Colantoni. It also features an impressive guest list with Paul Rudd, Kyle Gallner, Tessa Thompson, Julie Gonzalo, Chris Lowell, Daran Norris, Harry Hamlin, Amanda Seyfried, Max Greenfield, Charisma Carpenter, Alona Tal, Ken Marino, Krysten Ritter, Patrick Fabian, Steve Guttenberg, Ed Begley Jr., Joss Whedon, Kevin Smith, Alyson Hannigan, Dianna Agron, Leighton Meester, and Joey Lauren Adams (and probably more that I cannot remember). The show is a fun mix of the crime, drama and comedy genres – highly infused with pop culture references (a bit like Buffy the Vampire Slayer, just sub horror for crime). But it is Bell as Veronica Mars that really makes this show special. She is absolutely brilliant, creating one of the great TV characters. Sadly, the show was cancelled after its third season, and while it does wrap up the season arc, there are still a few character arcs left open. However, it is definitely worth watching as it is a lot of fun and has some of the best writing on TV (especially for UPN/The CW). Check out the trailer.
