At the Movies – September 2013 – Part 1: Independent Films

Art-House Comedies:

Don Jon (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) – Romantic Comedy – Sep 27
Plot Summary: Don Jon is a typical New Jersey guy. He is dedicated to his friends, family, church, body, and car. But after watching too much porn, he has unreal expectations when it comes to girls and love. To find happiness with his potential true love, he must work through his intimacy issues. Filmmakers: Don Jon marks the directorial debut for writer-director Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who we all know from his acting (things like 3rd Rock from the Sun, Brick, Inception, and Looper). He is working with composer Nathan Johnson (Looper), cinematographer Thomas Kloss (Conan the Barbarian), and production designer Meghan Rogers. Cast: Joseph Gordon-Levitt also stars opposite Scarlett Johansson, while Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, Glenne Heady, Brie Larson, and Rob Brown feature in support. Expectations: Don Jon has an excellent cast and looks like a refreshingly different and funny romantic comedy (for a change). While it did not fully charm critics at the Sundance Film Festival this year, it was a favorite among audience members. This is worth checking out for fans of romantic comedies that are ready for something a little different. Trailer: HereReview: Here.
